Information overload. You’ve surely heard the term, because as a solopreneur it’s very likely you’ve experienced it firsthand! It’s a phenomenon that happens to the majority of solopreneurs – especially in the beginning stages of business or during periods of growth.

The ongoing learning – software, trends, marketing strategies etc – that’s necessary when running your own business can mean you sometimes feel more frustrated, overwhelmed and confused than ever and just knowing where to start seems impossible.

Truth is, we’ve all been there.

In the quest to succeed in small business, learning new information is essential and it will become an ongoing component of running…. and building… your business. The key to avoiding information overload though is implementing strategies to manage the way you are reading, watching and learning all of the exciting new things that are inspiring you!

Take a deep breath and then see which of the following tips you can start implementing.

Slow down

The first thing you can do is calm down, suck in a deep breath and take some of the pressure off of yourself. All of this information you need to digest isn’t going anywhere. It’s going to be here tonight, next week, and a year from now. You don’t have to digest it all right this very minute.

One thing at time

There’s an old saying, “How do you eat an elephant?” Answer: One bite at a time. Choose a single topic to focus on at any point in time so your head is not swimming with information about too many unrelated topics. The “Complete Guide to Social Media Marketing” does not need to be studied at the same time as the article on WordPress Development.

Business knowledge is your elephant and you have to choose whether you want to eat the ear, the foot, or the tail section first. It doesn’t matter if you start out learning about content marketing before you know the ropes of list building but trying to learn it all at once will exhaust you.

The awesome point is that you’re educating yourself and as long as you apply new insights to improving the way you do business, you’re on the road to success!

Be realistic about where you are at

Some things just won’t make sense to learn before others. If you know you have no money to start with, then don’t buy (or even download for free) a guide about paid advertising methods. Start with something you can do and implement straight away. The rest can…. and will…. wait until you are ready.

Be a strategic learner of new information

You don’t want a guide to everything all at once. You want to invest in small, bite-sized chunks of information that you can digest and utilize before moving on and that’s why all of the Solopreneur Success learning materials are broken down into easy to implement ‘chunks’.

For example…. want to start with blogging? Get a blog guide. Launch a blog. Then move on, strategically, to whatever interests you next, The key is to not get bogged down by having too much information and too many choices at once.

Keep an eye out for Solopreneur Success updates on soon to be released bite-sized learning opportunities, guaranteed to provide practical learning without the overload!
